The project is articulated through some essential principles: the pedestrianization of the square, formal uniformity and visual order, the enhancement of the main monuments and functional flexibility.

It was therefore considered an essential priority to eliminate the continuous driveway crossing. The road network revolves around the historical monuments of the bell tower to the north and the fountain to the south, developing along the east-west axes.

To obtain the formal cleanliness and unity of the intervention, two paved macro-areas are identified that design the layout of the square. The “perimeter” and the “plate”.

The proposed project is thought to be a first step towards a redevelopment on a larger scale than that of the square, placing itself within a contemporary debate on mobility and the environment which in the not very near future will consist of the new protagonism of pedestrianization of the historic centre, as is already the case in the main European capitals, of the use of electricity and the enhancement of public transport.
